Whimsical Basket Fascinator
Stacking baskets has become "a thing" for me creatively. My first stacked basket fascinator happened in a fluid moment. I had some baskets I knew I wanted to make hats out of but for about two years I had only used to hold trim. The idea was there, but the "how to" wasn't a full idea yet. I had moved and was pulling all my thrifted, salvaged, and gifted junk from boxes and I was throwing them in piles on the bed, to organize them within my new space. A friend had come into the room and we were talking philosophy. Talking about two different ways of experiencing life. I have a libra mind that sees both sides to everything. I am always looking for where opposites connect. My friend and I were talking about how some people plan and create direction for life and some just let life show up organically and go with the flow of it, which tends to be how I experience life. While talking, I looked down at the bed and the 2 big baskets I had tossed on it, were stacked so perfectly together. It was a creative "aha" moment. And I forgot all about planning and organizing my room and started to play with the baskets and by the end of the day, I had a new style of a stacked basket hat figured out.

This glitter-ball upcycled fascinator is much smaller than the original ridiculously large basket hat idea. It is its child though, so still no less ridiculous. It is piled with re-imagined flowers I made from plastic and fabric flowers and leaves I plucked from junky old wreaths. The flowers have crocheted and rhinestone beads for centers and the hat is dotted all over with tiny, rhinestone-centered, purple satin flowers. The fuzzy and tasseled edge and the dangling beads, made from a scarf, upholstery trim, and a child's beaded curtain, add playful movement. And, the iridescent purple teardrops, pink pearls, rhinestones, scalloped edge mardi gras beads, and the purple glitter ball surrounded by chunky violet beads, give this whimsical wearable hat sculpture just the right touch of sparkle. A most necessary part of being a warrior of joy.

Whimsical Basket Fascinator
The upcycled basket on this whimsical fascinator hat is small, comfortably curved, and made of sturdy wicker. It is embellished with glitter-painted roses, silver leaves, a pink feather, and purple balls covered in glitter nests like magical eggs in curly pink ribbons. A violet crochet veil with a blue dingle ball can be worn softly draped over an eye to suggest an aura of mystery, and then, turned around, it can be worn over the back of the head... so you can eat, drink and be merry. The whimsical basket is fixed on a pink satin headband. The headband makes placing or removing the fascinator easy and because the basket is slightly off-center, a coiffed, albeit silly look, is assured every time, even when crowning without a mirror. One of a kind and handmade with a touch of ridiculous, for a goddess hiding or hunting Easter eggs or simply embracing the wacky feminine.

Purple Flower Enigma

I've heard that glitter is bad for the environment, so I saved the raspberry glitter-encrusted flower on this small basket hat, and the serving basket itself, from the landfill. Better it's on your head making you shine and others laugh. If you've read any of my other stories, or know me personally, you know I love all things purple. Well, this fascinator is nothing but, except for the black satin headband and the repurposed durable wicker basket fixed to it. Even the labels or linings inside most of my upcycled accessories are purple or are themselves out and out purple, or variations of it, like this raspberry-purple flower hat. It even has a purple felt backing under its label. I've made amendments to this raspberry flower, adding purple puzzle pieces, because I don't really KNOW if it's true that glitter is bad for the environment... and well, so many other things. The pieces don't fit together, but they fit visually on this sassy little party hat. The puzzling purple pieces, tucked into the layers of the web-like petals, crown the top of the basket. Figured I'd put the question (s) out there, UP there on top of the head, for God, Goddess, and Universe. Not just the question of glitter, but all the questions I have. If God IS someone or a BIG WOW energetic presence, then I figure I'm adding even more sparkle to their heavenly existence. A re-minder of this "two-way street" that we should be slowing down on, enough to notice how our thought, words, and deeds affect this whole pulsating existence. I mean the heavenly beings must be tired of always being asked for favors. A little raspberry star-like flower, beaming up gratitude from the crown of your head, for the creation and variations of the color purple and for the flowers, sky, and "mountain majesty" that it shows up in... Perhaps the sparkle itself is the "answer" that rendezvous back from The Light through the sparkle. It's true, "not all that glitters is gold", because sometimes it's purple.
