Crack open and up, wearing this painted hat upcycled from kitchen trash. A colorful flower bouquet made with egg carton cups, crowns a berry carton painted in copper and olive green stripes. More flowers painted olive and chartreuse green, aqua, coral, pink, and, maroon, encircle the hat. A satin headband painted pink makes the whimsical fascinator easy to remove when getting in your car. It is fixed at a dramatic angle so a perfectly coiffed crowning is assured, even without the aid of a mirror.

  • The painted egg carton flowers and leaves, the berry carton base, and the toilet paper roll used to fix this whimsical painted fascinator to the headband are all made of repurposed pulped paper... trash that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.  All are painted with acrylic or enamel paints, are lacquered, and are water-resistant.* The olive and chartreuse green, aqua, coral, pink, and, maroon flowers have metallic copper highlights and glossy or metallic paint centers. The leaves are forest green. The base is striped with olive green and copper paint. The interior and the openings in the berry carton is aqua.

    The headband is new.

    Care:

Hold both sides of the headband to put on and take off. When holding otherwise, it is best to hold it by the berry carton rather than the headband.*

While this hat is lacquered and water-resistant, it is not necessarily waterproof. Remove and cover it if caught in the rain or when near misters. If it does get wet, gently shake off water droplets, pat with a tea towel, and set it in the sunshine or in front of a fan to dry.

    Styling Ideas:

Looks great alone or over a colorful wig or a feathered cap

Keep the silly look simple with a solid or colorful dress, pantsuit, or costume

For more dramatic occasions, pair it up with one of my upcycled festival skirts or a piece of upcycled jewelry.
